Adam Sanchez, an openly gay author whose book, Rainbow Boys, was included on the American Library Association’s list of Best Books for Young Adults in 2002, has been refused the opportunity to speak to high school students in Charlotte County, N.B., after school principals began receiving complaints from parents about the proposed author appearance.

Alex (not Adam) Sanchez’s books are very good and deal with ‘the issue’ intelligently. But that doesn’t matter to people who want to ‘protect’ their children.

Schools should be places that open minds and teach tolerance.
