Kidsvids: Final Thoughts

This was a fun series to do. I got to “meet” some interesting people and I had fun.

I was quite pleased with the positive feedback from some of the YouTubers. This made me work harder on the posts.

The biggest problem I had was choosing which videos to use in my posts. Bluetreefrog22 and Left4ComedyXD have around 70 videos each and I looked at all of them. So many of these videos fit the guidelines I set for myself I had to make some tough choices. That was fine. It’s better to have too much source material than not enough.

I may do another series similar to this in the future.

EthansFX Handgun with reloadable clip by Left4ComedyXD

Having a series in your blog or YouTube channel is a good way to keep visitors interested. It’s also a good way to interact with your subscribers.

Series can use any topic or format. One good format for kids is the tutorial or “how-to” video because it let’s them show off their skills.

Ethan of Left4ComedyXD has a series called Ethan’s FX where he explains how to make “really cheap props for movies or just for messing around.”

I watched several of these tutorials and I was impressed. Ethan has a knack for teaching and puts a lot of effort into the videos.

EthansFX Handgun

Ethan and his co-host Dummy Ethan choose a project by checking a magical policeman’s hat. Ethan lists the items needed for the project and then the demonstration begins.

The video editing isn’t perfect but everything is explained and Ethan adds safety and other tips.

Ethan finishes his video by inviting his viewers to send in ideas for future shows.

The chosen project is good because it’s easy to do. Younger kids may need help with the cutting and painting but even they can do this project. Furthermore, the items needed can be found around the house.

I enjoyed watching this video and I recommend it to kids and parents looking for something fun to do. I also recommend the Fake Knife and Wrist Communicator tutorials.

Jake NEW Pommel Record - 120 Circles! by bluetreefrog22

When I first watched this video all I could say was “Wow!”. The gymnast is 9 year old Jake who I introduced in a previous post. I admire his skill and stamina. The video is a cool record of Jake’s achievement.

To compete competitively in gymnastics Jake has to have strength and flexibility. He has to know good and safe ways to exercise to build those qualities.

Splits/leg strength and flexibility tutorial

This is a cool exercise video that kids and adults will enjoy. Jake explains things well and gives good demonstrations.

One of the reasons I like the video is that it does many things right:

  • It is interesting
  • People can relate to the topic
  • The video is clear
  • The host is knowledgeable
  • The host is enjoying himself.

Jake and Tobie Crazy trampolining

In this video Jake and his younger brother Tobie show off their trampoline skills. It’s fun watching them do some cool moves.

LEFT4COMEDYXDS 100TH SUBSCRIBER THANKYOU VIDEO

Young people need to express themselves and get recognized. Some take up sports while others blog or do other activities. Some choose YouTube as their medium of expression.

YouTube is a big place and sometimes it is hard to get noticed. You feel a thrill when people you don’t know subscribe to your channel. You feel better when they actually like your videos and are not spamming you or trying to get you to “sub” them back.

One of the big milestones is getting your 100th subscriber. Wow! It’s a great feeling to know that so many people like your videos enough to subscribe.

Last night I was going through the video channels I had bookmarked and came across the video posted above. I could relate to what Ethan was saying and wanted to respond but felt I hadn’t looked at his channel enough. So I watched videos and found several I liked.

Ethan posts comedy, skits, animations, vlogs, and “EthanFX” turorials. The vlogs and tutorials are very good. I’ll be posting one of the tutorials later on.

Kids and young teens will appreciate Ethan’s brand of humour. At 13 he hasn’t lost that child-like sense of fun and having fun is one of the reasons for making videos. Although he seems a comic at heart Ethan manages to present his vlogs and tutorials with an adult’s sense of clarity.

Ethan was celebrating his 100th subscriber when I messed up his count. I became his 101st. :)

Check out his channel: LEFT4COMEDYXD.

Tobie goes hula hooping crazy!! by bluetreefrog22

This is a cute video. Young Tobie smiles, sings, and hula hoops his way into our hearts and finishes in style.

I smile whenever I see this one. I thinks it’s a great example of getting a kid to do something they like for the camera. The happier the child is with the activity the likelier we will respond positively to a video. Furthermore, an involved and happy kid is less likely to get in mom and dad’s way… for a while. :)
